Auction Etiquette

DO:                                            

• Come early and preview all items, this will give you a chance to familiarize yourself with what is offered for sale. 
• Make sure you have a catalog and make notes about any potential items you want to bid on.
• Determine the maximum you are willing to pay for an item before the bidding starts. 
• Get close to the auctioneer and make eye contact.
• Make sure the auctioneer understands your cues when bidding.
• Speak loud and clearly.
• Present your bidder ID card number to the auctioneer when you are the successful bidder.
• Remain cool. If the bidding goes beyond the maximum amount you anticipated to pay, stop bidding, and wait for the next bargain.
• Remember, you're buying properties "as - is" and all sales are final.
• Remember that you will be paying a 5% buyers premium.
• Remember applicable state and local taxes will be added to the final amount of your purchase.
• Ask questions.
• Secure your items when the auctioneer says “Sold” and records you bidder number.
• HAVE FUN!!!

DON’T

• Talk to the clerk; this is the person who records the bids during the auction. 
• Talk to others while they are bidding or have conversations near the auctioneer.
• Interrupt the auctioneer or the auction process when there is active bidding.
• Move items from one location or box lot to another.
• Discuss your bid with another bidder prior to bidding: this is collusion and is illegal.
• Forget to pay for your items.
• Forget to save the date for the next auction.
